Starting a subscription service for CK2 sounded pretty neat, especially given that the base game is free, but I'm less excited to see them start a second scheme for EU4. Or if you'd rather, you can buy DLC the same way as ever.
Still, unless you're in it for the long haul, a sub might very well be cheap and handy. That wodge of DLC would currently cost £220 or thereabouts, though obviously some are less important than others and they're often much cheaper on sale. It's the same price as a CK2 sub, though EU4's base game isn't free like CK2's is, so you do need that too. For a monthly fee of £4/€5/$5, players get access to the expansions and various content packs, present and future. Paradox previously ran a trial of this EU4 sub service for selected players, and as of yesterday it's now available for everyone. And it's still optional, they're still selling stuff separately too. Yesterday they launched a separate subscription for Europa Universalis 4, once again offering all the expansions and DLC for a price of £4/month. Now they're doing the same with another grand strategy game. You can blob in this game similar to EU4, but it is much different.Last month, Paradox launched an optional subscription service for Crusader Kings 2 which gave access to all its expansions and DLC for a small monthly fee. You can also dabble in eugenics and very greatly manipulate bloodlines and genetic traits which tend to stick with your family once gained. You always have to be playing for not just your heir to the throne, but your heirs heir. Making it the longest period in a game of the paradox games. It goes up and down as you play and also as events happen. Every single character in the world (there are thousands) has a relationship modifier towards you and your family. Your playing as a family rather than a nation. The entire game period is approximately 8-10 yearsĬK2 is about family & personal relationship management. The game gives you hardly any clue towards this and those numbers matter a great deal.
There is a lot of subtlety hidden in the numbers (combat width, breakthrough, hard & soft attack). Its literally just you pushing units around the map and managing production. In fact usually when the war starts, it doesn't end. HoI4 is way way way more warfare focused than CK2. HoI4 is a resource / production management / warfare game CK2 and HoI4 are totally different games.
